What happens if my child is ill?

It's unavoidable that small children catch all kinds of minor infections. For a speedy recovery and to prevent the other children from falling ill, children who are unwell must stay at home. Only when the fever has subsided for a whole day should you return your child to the nursery. If the disease is infectious, we'll need a doctor's note confirming that your child is no longer contagious.

Non Collection of your child

In the event of your child not being collected by an authorised adult by the end of the day, the following procedure will occur;

  • The message book will be checked to see if there are any messages related to the child.

  • Parents will be contacted on all available telephone numbers.

  • If this is unsuccessful we will the ring the emergency contact number.

  • If all reasonable attempts in contacting any of the carers after one hour we will contact the local authority and social services department.

  • The child stays at the Nursery and Daycare with 2 members of staff until they are collected by the parents or by a social worker.

  • Social Services will try and find the parent or relative, if they are unable to do so the child will be admitted to the care of the local authority.

  • Under no circumstances must the staff go to look for the parents or take them home with them.

  • A full written report of the incident is recorded within the child’s file see.

  • Ofsted will be informed.

If your child is involved in an accident

Minor incidents - All details will be recorded in the accident book. Parents will be asked to read and countersign the book when they collect their child to agree they have been informed of the accident and a copy will be given to the parent once the Manager has countersigned.

Major incidents - Parents will be contacted immediately. A member of staff will accompany your child to hospital if an ambulance arrives before the parents; parents will be advised to meet at the hospital. All hospital or dental visits will be reported to OFSTED
